NewsFormer Youth Platform member joins Board at Horniman Museum

We are pleased to announce the Horniman Museum and Public Park Trust have appointed one of our former Youth Platform members to their Board of Trustees. The appointment of Mayowa Ochere in December 2019 highlights a talented and flourishing individual whose involvement with Youth Platform began in 2010 through Peckham Platform’s projects and artistic collaborations. Today, Mayowa is in a position to influence diverse youth engagement with the Horniman along with the cultural sector.

“I became involved with Peckham Platform through a youth group I attended during my teenage years called Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT). LOT works with young people from inner-city areas to broaden career aspirations and provide exposure to culture and the arts. I had a great opportunity to work with artists Harold Offeh and Barbie Asante on collaborative projects with Peckham Platform. Futurama allowed us to imagine the Peckham we wanted to see in the future and the South London Black Music Archive allowed us to explore the links between black history and music” – Mayowa Ochere

This is a celebration of Mayowa and the varied opportunities Peckham Platform aims toward in supporting young people through Youth Platform. We are currently offsite with our new building to be on Peckham Square in 2021. As always we welcome new members to join Youth Platform and if you are interested, you can find out more here
