What is Peckham Platform?
At Peckham Platform we know that art has a unique ability to create meaningful change. Since to 2010, we have been fostering new collaborations between our local communities and prominent social artists; to co-produce bold new artworks that create open platforms for civic enquiry. Within a context of forceful regeneration that is increasing inequality throughout Peckham, Peckham Platform provides a space where a broad cross section of voices can be heard.
We’ve forged partnerships between the youth services women’s group and Sonia Boyce to create Network in 2011; the Three Cs disability and mental health group to co-create Money Distribution Machines with Kathrin Böhm in 2014; and in 2017 we brought our Youth Platform of 13-19 year olds to Frieze Art Fair to present a co-commission with Marc Bauer. These are just a few of the many remarkable co-commissions delivered with our community over the years.
In 2021, we will launch our new home on Peckham Square, working in partnership with London Borough of Southwark who committed major initial investment in our plans. Our new gallery will be at the heart of an ambitious new vision for Peckham Platform. With five times our current footprint and new facilities; we will become a welcoming centre for creative civic engage- ment and community participation. With new gallery spaces, learning facilities, and the first ever national Social Art Resource we will expand our activities, doubling our audiences, the number of participation opportunities we offer, and increasing our ability to create transformational artistic opportunities for communities facing the greatest need in Peckham and beyond.
Now, we need your help. We are launching a major fundraising campaign to raise a further one million pounds by July 2019 in order to achieve our vision and safeguard investment from London Borough of Southwark. In October 2018, our campaign received a huge boost, with Arts Council England announcing a significant donation. If you are interested in hearing more about our plans, please be in touch to explore the many ways you can get involved in turning our ideas into an inspiring new future for Peckham.
“The UK needs more places like Peckham Platform. Their work to support the formalisation of social arts practice and disseminate that nationally is of real value to artists, organisations and communities across the UK.”
Harriet Harman, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport
At Peckham Platform we see no value in art without people. We can only be successful when the community is broadly, intimately and genuinely engaged in our practice and this extends to engaging with us as financial and in-kind supporters.
