Ruth Beale

Artists

Ruth Beale is a London-based artist who works collectively and collaboratively, exploring the way culture, governance and social discourse create society. Their practice includes socially-engaged processes, as well as drawing, performance, film and installations.

They work on both long-term projects involving extensive archive research, and more spontaneous performances which co-opt audiences, collaborators and participants.

Ruth also works collaboratively with Amy Feneck as The Alternative School of Economics. With Nicole Bachmann they are a founding member of the performance platform Performance as Publishing, an active research project into text and writing for performance. They are a member of Lewisham Arthouse
artist studio cooperative and of the queer feminist f*choir.

In 2014 Peckham Platform commissioned Beale to produce Bookbed, an exhibition exploring the library in the context of twenty-first century technologies.

Their work was also part of the 2016 Peckham Platform Retrospective exhibition, a timeline of all 20 artists commissions realised by Peckham Platform between 2010 – 2016.
