Resource: Seek, Sort, Sense. Early Years Activity Packs

Resources

Seek, Sort, Sense is a free activity pack to engage with green spaces in the area through fun activities to be completed outdoors and at home. The activities are designed for children aged 3-6, their carers and families to enjoy some special outdoor time while finding creative ways to study and enjoy nature.

Activities are completed in three stages:

1) SEEK:
Get to your nearest green space and collect some of nature’s treasures.
We have provided maps of some of Peckham’s local gems to get you started.

2) SORT:
Bring your specimens home, prepare them, and arrange them into different groups with our guides.

3) SENSE:
Observe your specimens and interpret them through the eyes of a ‘SciArtist’!

All activities should be completed with an adult’s supervision and support.

Our Seek, Sort, Sense activity pack has been designed to support the early years development of local children aged 3-6 years old. These accessible and creative activities nurture observation and fusion skills through connecting children and families to Peckham’s green spaces.

These packs have been informed by workshops with children from Harris Academy with artist and activist Daryl Stenvoll-Wells of Art Responders. In these workshops Stenvoll-Wells co-developed the designs of potential green spaces in the local area and suggestions for our new building on Peckham Square. These sessions also reflected on community assets, values and principles through restorative justice practices.
